Large deposits of hematite are found in banded iron formations that form as silt, sedimentary iron minerals precipitate within partially dissolved limestones and dolomites during ancient periods of low oxygen concentration when the earth's atmosphere was richer in free oxygen. Gray forms as bands or patches of minerals separate various shades of green in lighter colored host rocks.

Bloodstone varieties come in various hues, most commonly red, but also red and dark yellow colors. Bloodstones vary greatly in toughness and are often characterized by gemologists as “vivid” or “excellent" specimens displaying a glassy luster that ranges from medium to high in many cases. Although there are different sources for bloodstones, the vast majority of stones found on the market today have been sourced from Europe and China.

Red jasper comes from many places around the world, including Brazil, France, Germany, India, Russia and the United States. You'll often see red jasper in cracks and veins of volcanic rocks and it's called for its striking coloration, though no one has ever seen jasper known as agates that looks anything like a red jasper! At times, you can even find out - of - place pockets of gorgeous jaspers within other material. They are sometimes confused with cat'seye agate, turqouise calcite, or amethyst - all different kinds of minerals.
